Photo & video shoot brief
A shoot brief makes sure everyone arrives on the day with the same picture in mind: what is being made, how it should look and where it will be used.
Answer what you can. Gaps are useful too: they show what to decide first.
Purpose
- What the content is for
- Campaign, online store, social, editorial or a launch.
- Product or subject
- What or who is in front of the camera.
- Key message
- The one thing the images should say.
Deliverables
- Stills
- Types of shot needed, such as product, lifestyle or detail.
- Video
- Films, cut-downs or loops, and their length.
- Formats
- Vertical, square or landscape, and where each will run.
- Usage
- Channels, regions and how long the content will be used.
Creative direction
- Mood and references
- Images or films that show the look you want.
- Styling
- Wardrobe, props, set and colour.
- Talent
- Models, hands, voice-over or none.
- Location
- Studio or location, and any permissions needed.
On the day
- Product list
- Every item to shoot, with samples ready and labelled.
- Shot list
- Priorities first, so the essentials are captured early.
- Approvals
- Who signs off shots on set.
After the shoot
- Retouching and edit
- Level of retouching, music, subtitles and graphics.
- Delivery
- File types, naming, sizes and the delivery date.
- Feedback
- Who gives feedback, and how many rounds are planned.
